My Yoga Journey

My condensed story of how it all began + where I'm at now.

During Covid lockdown, I turned on the TV and searched "yoga for beginners" on YouTube. My first ever yoga teacher was Adriene from yoga with Adriene. If you know, you know. I had been contemplating yoga for a while at this point, but I was a tad intimidated. I didn't know how to touch my toes, let alone bring my body into the contorted poses I'd assumed came with the territory. But Adriene made yoga so accessible for someone like me, who didn't have any relationship to moving my body at the time.

I wasn't real sure what happened exactly, but after taking my first class via YouTube, I knew I wanted to do it again. Not only did I feel so much better in my body, my mind felt...calm? I was intrigued. I started taking those classes nearly every day. Before long, it had become something I looked forward to, especially after a long day of cutting hair. (Side note: I'm a barber.) I used to view yoga as an escape, but now I believe it was more of a coming home: to myself - mind, body, and soul.

Fast-forward five years later, the practice has still been a part of my life. I decided I wanted to become a yoga teacher. I found an online program called YogaRenew, and once I found out I could learn it all at my own pace, the rest is history. I got to delve into yoga philosophy, breathing techniques, and the Yamas & Niyamas (to name a few). I fell in love with yoga even more.

Although I completed the majority online, I was also able to fly into Hoboken, New Jersey at their headquarters and complete a 30 hour in person intensive. There, I learned how to properly put together sequences and how to cue with confidence. I met so many amazing people, specifically my now long distance best friend. Yoga brought me a greater sense of overall wellbeing, and a community as well (though not local...yet).

I am still on my mat almost daily. I enjoy putting together sequences + creating themes that will hopefully make a positive impact on those in my classes, just as it did for me.

After all, my mission statement is:

My mission is to inspire others to connect deeply with themselves - mind, body, and spirit. My goal is to help those feel aligned in their lives; and feel healthy, vibrant, and strong.
